MAY MEMORIES "DRIVING HOME"
Even thought I am way late, here is my "May Memories" report. (before I write June's happenings, he he):
Friday the 1st of May began with DENSE fog similar to the fog we have experienced in Hamilton, New Zealand years and years ago! Thank goodness it did not last long. We passed a man sitting in the back of his truck holding a "SLOW" sign... we had to laugh out loud! What a job. Once out of Amarillo TX we saw the coolest farm watering system in the fields. The water sprinkled close to the ground instead of water flying in the wind, so much more efficient. 10:40 a.m. we came upon the town of Memphis TX with a population of 2,479 with a peanut factory that caught our eye. By 4:58 p.m. we arrived at the Tui home. Yeah!!! Feet upon the ground for awhile! Emma, Eli and Eva were excited to see us AGAIN as it was a surprise to them. Ezra knew that we were coming as I had let the cat out of the bag, by mistake, and I tried really hard to redeem myself but it did not work. He still was glad to see us, though.
*The next morning (Sat.) a severe rain storm and thunderstorm kept us anxious. A baseball cover collapsed on the Dallas cowboy football team injuring a couple of men.
*Eva followed me around for a couple of days just like Sarah did when we were at the Hanchett house.
*Ate yummy ice cream treats at Braun's one evening after dinner.
*Attended the 1st New Zealand former Kiwi's get together (will be an anual event). Highlight of the day for the kids was the "Lollie Scramble" with New Zealand candy! Someone had brought a box of New Zealand apples and a lot of the food brought was New Zealand type. It was an interesting, fun afternoon .
*Wayne and Ezra had some alone time one day.
*Walked to the lake with the kids and tried to feed the ducks but the ducks wouldn't cooperate.
*Wayne took Ezra, Eli and Emma fishing. Ez caught a large catfish.
*I played several times chicken foot dominoes with Emma and Eva. Eli, Ez and even Mom joined in sometimes.
*Watched Craig Ferguson a few times with Devina.
*94 degrees and the humidity was very close to that number!
*Watched Eli play flag football. He made 4 tackles and 1 touchdown that game!
*Went shopping with Devina and found some Capri's and a top.
*Early Mother's Day (2 a.m.!) I helped Devina transfer most of the utility room fridge food into the kitchen fridge as a burning smell was present from that old fridge. We vacuumed the coils, etc., and hoped for the best.
*Got a new camera for Mother's Day from Wayne!
*Listened to Ezra's last Primary talk.
*Celebrated with the family Ezra's 12th birthday.
*Witnessed Eva's bloody and swollen eye from a bungee cord mishap. It was heartbreaking to see the pain she was in. It was a scary time for the whole family.
*Listened to Devina's pre-school sessions each Tuesday and Thursdays.
*All Postage increased!!! @@!**!##
*Played more chicken foot dominoes with Emma, Eli and Eva. Sometimes Devina joined in.
*Went to the Golden Coral for dinner. Yummy!
*Saw Ez receive his "Faith in God Award" in Sacrament Meeting that he had completed in Primary. (next is Duty to God) And he was also sustained a deacon in the same Sacrament Meeting. Had some family pictures taken after his ordination after the meeting.
*Vacuumed motor home with Devina's vacuum and did some general cleaning. Getting ready for our long trip home to OR.
*Amazed at Ezra and Emma blowing such huge soap bubbles while they were doing the dishes.
*May 19th left the Tui clan with much sadness. (the kids stayed home from school to see us leave) Waved goodbye to them plus the pre-school children. Saw lots of wild flowers in the mediums and sides of the freeway. It was so pretty. Half way between Ardmore and Oklahoma City saw a sign: "Wayne/Payne" ( a friend calls Wayne: "Wayne the Pain" (Inside joke) Spent the night at Sooner's Corner Motel and RV Park, Oklahoma.
*10:20 a.m. 20th May sign "Kansas". 10:40 a.m. picked up a toll ticket at the beginning of the Kansas Turnpike at the Southern terminal. 4:12 p.m. NEBRASKA STATE LINE Hay rolled up like giant jelly rolls! Sign: "Oregon Trail Country". Experiencing fierce wind! In the Tornado Alley area... Sounds like the slide out awnings will be ripped off. Not fun at all. Stopped for the night at KOA Grand Island in Nebraska after traveling 358 miles.
*Thursday 21st May Wayne had the "Wild Wayne's Way" breakfast in the KOA Kafe that consisted of 2 eggs on a bed of hash browns, topped with sauteed onions and diced sausages served with 2 slices of toast, while I showered and did my hair. Heard from Dalton - he was transporting in his truck some bikes for the kids in the charter school where he teaches, to a point where they would ride their bikes for cancer. Little Tara began this fund raiser by having her hair cut! Huge farms we are seeing with huge silos for the grain. 11:50 a.m. pine trees are appearing. We saw none in Oklahoma or Kansas. Seeing sand hills close to the road and further out. 5:25 p.m. sign: "Buffalo may be dangerous". Soon after, two huge buffalo walked right across the road in front of us. 5:39 Sign: "Elk Capitol of South Dakota in Pringle, South Dakota"
Spent night at Custer/Mt. Rushmore KOA Kampground after traveling 417 miles today.
*22nd May (Friday) Drove to the Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills of SD. It is the world's largest Mountain Carving. Ate lunch in the Laughing Water Restaurant and toured the Indian Museum there. In the afternoon we drove to Mt. Rushmore. Walking down the Avenue of Flags up to Mt. Rushmore was so impressive. I was so glad that we saw this amazing site.
*23rd May took us into Wyoming and at 2:46 p.m. we drove past Lost Springs, WY population "1". No kiddin'. Arrived at the KOA in Casper WY but there was no room in the inn! So we backtracked 50 miles to Douglas WY KOA and spent the night.
*May 24th at 10:30 a.m. we crossed the emigration "Mormon Pioneer Trail" near Glenrock, WY. We found that many names along the highway are mentioned in church history - saints crossing the plains. On Interstate 25, the pony express riders also used this route. Arrived at the Cody WY KOA at 5:06 p.m.
*May 25th we spent the day in Cody visiting an Old West Miniature Village and Museum which was excellent. Then we drove to the Cody Visitors center then went into the Buffalo Bill Historic Center with 5 museums in that building. It was a sight to behold. So very interesting. Was a long day.
*May 26th Spent all day in the Yellowstone National Park! Saw Old Faithful blow. Another long day but well worth it!
*May 27th It was a beautiful cool day with a few clouds overhead. At 11:25 a.m. we were in Montana. Seems that hay grows well here. Crossed over "Yellowstone River" several times. All of Montana that we saw was just beautiful. 5:20 p.m. stopped for the night at Butte Montana KOA.
*May 28th Wayne's tummy upset today. All the rivers we saw were running very high. Got hot enough to turn on the generator so we could run the air conditioner. 2:41 p.m. sign: Welcome to IDAHO. 2:46 p.m. drove through Coeur d'Alene ID which is a very inviting city, looks similar to Portland to me. 6:01 p.m. arrived for the night at Pasco/Tri Cities KOA traveling 445 miles today.
*May 29th Very hot by 10 a.m. in the coach. 10:30 a.m. we are in OREGON! Seeing huge Wind Mills on the hills coming up to Arlington along side the Columbia River. Seeing even more wind mills on the Washington side. With the mighty Columbia River flowing between OR and Washington there is a certain beauty here. Then seeing Mt. Hood - what a site. HOME AT 2:45 p.m.
BALLOONS GREETED US (put there by Dori) AS WE PARKED BESIDE OUR CARPORT TO UNLOAD. AND A CUTE WELCOME SIGN ON OUR BACK DOOR. IT IS SO NICE TO BE HOME.
* Dori and Bryce came over and then Brian. Then they all went to Costco and bought a
couple of rotisserie chickens that we ate for dinner with stuffing, etc.
*Saturday May 30th started with laundry to do. Also brought more stuff in from the motor home. To bed by midnight.
*Sunday May 31st we were both so tired we did not wake up in time to get ready for church. Dori came over with Bryce and spent some time.
THIS MAY BE THE LAST BORING POST YOU GET FOR SOME TIME. NOW THAT WE ARE HOME WE ARE NOT DOING ANY TRAVELING AND WON'T BE DOING MUCH THAT IS EXCITING FOR YOU TO HAVE TO READ ABOUT. I BET YOU ARE THRILLED! he he. I AM TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO POST PHOTOS AND MAYBE ONE DAY I WILL BE ABLE TO ALL ON MY OWN!!!!

APRIL MEMORIES
Our last few days at Happy Trails RV Resort were really busy visiting family & friends & packing for our trip home (via TX). April began with my friend, Vicky, taking me shopping and then treating me to lunch at an authentic Mexican Restaurant. On the 2nd I received several "birthday calls", some cards had arrived before. Wayne took me to a Deseret Book Store in Glendale, ate lunch at a Dairy Queen, made a "food storage chocolate cake" with Sarah. After dinner we watched Jake come in 4th place over all at their annual Pinewood Derby.
*During the week we attended a Birthday Party for friend Chuck and to my surprise I got some cards also. I did not know that Vicky had told them it was my birthday also that week.
*Denise and boys came over with cupcakes and candles and presents!
*Experienced 2 very strong wind storms that covered all the patio furniture with a layer of red dirt.
*Watched April General Conference at the Hanchett's. Played games with the grandchildren and Donna updated my blog with slide shows.
*Played Hand & Foot with our LDS Card Club friends.
*Played Hand & Foot with Chuck and Vicky.
*Wayne played golf with Jake and Zach. He then played golf with Mike, Jake and Zach the next week.
*I went to the Anthem Outlet Stores with Donna, Sarah and Luke.
*Ate Easter Dinner with the Pearson's and the Hanchett's.
*Realized I like Kenny Chesney, a country singer.
*O'Malley escaped a couple of times when the motor home door was not properly closed.
*Wayne worked on Chuck & Vicky's computers and we got a free lunch and dinner out of his efforts!
*Loved Donna's home made wheat bread!
*Spent too long one night in the laundry room when Wayne fell asleep!
*Watched Zach in 5 wrestling matches; several schools competed.
*Ate dinner at the Pearson's and played chicken scratch with the boys and
Denise.
*Went to church with Hanchett's and ate dinner and played games with the grandchildren. Was sent home with Donna's fresh baked wheat bread & cookies for the trip.
*28th Left Happy Trails. Miss the birds! Miss the Pearson's and the Hanchett's. Stopped at the Meteor Crater near Winslow, AZ & toured the Museum, etc. The hole was huge. Such an interesting place.
*29th Travelled to Albuquerque, NM and spent the night.
*30th Traveled to Amarillo, TX and spent the night.
I WILL TRY AND ADD SOME SLIDE SHOWS AT THE TUI HOME WHEN WE GET THERE!
